Kombat Group in Pattaya, Thailand
I got into Bangkok, was a bit frustrated because I wasn’t sure if I had to line up at the “Visas on Arrival” counter which meant I needed a 2×4 pic on me, 1000 Baht ($40) which I also didn’t have. The currency exchange in Australia screwed me over, I gave them $35, a mix of New Zealand and Canadian funds I had and I got back a whooping $16. They said I should have converted into New Zealand which I was going to do but the screens were wrong saying “boarding now” for my flight when they really weren’t boarding and I rushed to the gate which was pretty much in “Tibet” ha ha. There was currency exchange counter there. Oh boy, oh well, not the end of the world. Anyways, I figure out I’m in the wrong line up and finally clear immigration. The driver is waiting for me on the other side but before we jet off I grab a sim card and some cash. It takes about 1.5 hours to get to Pattaya and the traffic is crazy but the highways are beautiful. Now I didn’t realize this then, but Pattaya is the “Sin City” capital of the world, ha ha. My camp however was in an isolated area nowhere near the city so there was no distractions or non-sense going on.
I get there and I meet with Barbara at the front reception desk and she is lovely. I’m glad she had convinced me to spend the next month in a room all by myself rather than a dorm room with 5 smelly guys, ha ha. We began training at 8am and the first class of the day was a functional training. I met other people at the camp and we all quickly became friends. There was the radiantly beautiful Chelsea from Scotland and her hilarious boyfriend Nathan. George was an inspiration; Dan’s dedication was astonishing, and Matt was an old soul in a young man’s body! Ha ha Throughout the weeks I met delightful Paivi, Johnno the Aussie, the Swedish brothers (Peter and Fred) and one of their thai wives, Kerry-Anne the Aussie, Nathalie the Belgium, Tim the German chef, Victor the lovely male model, Patrick and his friend from Ireland, Barbara from Italy, Sylvia and Carmela the Italian pro boxers, the owners Christian and Christiano, our trainers Joel, Do Dong, Gerry, and P’Yai. If I forgot anyone sorry, let me know and I’ll add you!
At Kombat Group you got to do classes like functional training, boxing, muy thai, brasilian ji jit su, MMA (mixed martial arts), and krav maga.
Anyways, the schedule was about 7.5 hours of grueling exercise per day for me and meals which were provided. They normally consisted of chicken breast and salads, not too many carbs and lots of fresh fruit. After functional training, we would have 1.5 hours of boxing. Then Brasilian Ji-Jitsu (which I did once). Shower, then have breakfast. Relax till about 4 then get ready for functional/MMA functional. Have a protein shake and go to boxing till about 7. After boxing, 3 times a week there was Krav Maga training. Then shower, eat dinner, go to bed around 10-10:30. During these 33 days at camp, I managed to watch the entire TV series called of Sons of Anarchy. Shout out goes to Rayaj back in Sri Lanka for setting up the VPN
which allowed me to watch the shows. I was never really bored because I was always doing laundry or relaxing from all the working out. I had a really good time at Kombat group and I’m glad I did it. At first I was disappointed because I hadn’t shed many pounds but when I looked at my before and after pictures, I was shocked. I had gained a lot of muscle and toned up enormously. I’m glad I took a month to do that and if Bass wasn’t coming to Thailand, I probably would have done another two months here. I was super nervous to leave the camp and see the “real world” again but I managed to do ok and I’m looking forward to coming back and doing a training camp again.
